Today, blogging and retail (online marketing) is really starting to take shape, and in this, I’m thinking you have searched this term not only to find out more on ecommerce but to actually start your own online business website within retail. If that’s true, stay tuned because I’m not only going to give you an in depth look at what an ecommerce website looks like, but I’ll also show you how to start building your own retail business online (ecommerce website).
Since the internet has begun, ecommerce has emerged as being nothing short of dominant. As the single biggest online marketplace within the world it is actually predicted that global B2C ecommerce sales will reach $1.5 trillion in the year 2019 (this year). That is a 20% raise since 2013.
As reported by mega research company Forrester Research, B2B ecommerce spending reached $559 billion in the US alone in 2013.
With this type of growth per year, if you decide that this is it and build yourself an online website in retail (online firm) then it’s arguably one of the biggest choices you will ever take.
An ecommerce website is an online retail store that sells just about every product or service online.
To start, people or businesses would need to buy on premise, standalone ecommerce software that required spacious in-house management teams with specialized development.
These unraveling solutions were normally very costly and not scalable to the point where anyone could just start. Getting all this built was also very time-consuming, leading people to need to wait many hours before they could even think about returning to their businesses.
Ecommerce software lets customers face the front end of all online retailers (online business). For somebody who wants to start their online business (commerce website), you can start straight after this post. Although this article sounds too deep for just anyone to start, that is not the case. All you need to move forward with this project are back-end functions (WordPress & Woo-Commerce). This is what allows the front end of a website to operate the way it does, where customers can make good use of it by buying what they need.
Ecommerce (vs Affiliate marketing)
There is a close line between affiliate marketing and commerce although they both run by a website. In ecommerce, there are important back end functions that the business needs to operate, and they are:
- Order Management
- Customer Service
- Inventory Management
- Email Marketing
- Paid Ads
All of these requirements needs frequent management and updates.
I want to very carefully show you the difference between both these platforms so that you can see how easy you can start. In short, because an ecommerce needs money to put back into it to build itself, you, having no money, can still start and become very successful; and this is done by way of affiliate marketing. I believe there is much value in giving you these ideas than just making a boring old article that everyone already knows.
In affiliate marketing, the same requirements are not required. Here is a list of how to get started in affiliate marketing (the start to an ecommerce platform with no money):
- Internet connection
- Typing skills
- Affiliate training
The many options to start an ecommerce website are found in blogs after typically searching for them. Here is what generally powers long term businesses within the ecommerce firm:
- Salesforce Cloud Commerce (Formaly Demandware)
The list above is a sure way to get started in the ecommerce section, but it isn’t what I was thinking. When I think about ecommerce I straight away think Amazon. What is Amazon? It is a website. If you choose to start your online store with Shopify you will be under their terms and negotiations. It is just a membership and profile. Just because they are big, it doesn’t mean it the end of commerce for the rest of the world which is what they want you to think.
In this post, I’m going to show you how to build you the perfect ecommerce store using your own online business website.
There are many different ways to host your ecommerce website. For beginners, it’s not going to matter all that much. You can learn that as time continues. But what does matter is obtaining the right training. Training and knowledge are everything you need to make a full time living online.
What defines ecommerce
There are few main ways that you can classify ecommerce websites. The best way to categorize ecommerce websites is by looking at the products they sell, who they transact with or the platforms they use.
If you can sell products online then you can turn your website into a full-blown ecommerce website. Most websites make it confusing to find out how exactly to start selling things with an ecommerce site. To my knowledge it is as simple as starting a website, making some money, and then paying higher professionals to customize your website.
First identify what different ecommerce sites there are online. The reason you want to identify the different types of ecommerce websites is so that you can find a way to break in and start your online business.
1. Online StoreFronts
Online storefronts are usually the ones you see all the time. On the internet you will see so many people trying to offer you there free webinar to find out how they make so much money.
You can either watch their webinars and pay money get your storefront advertised or build a website from scratch and save money to have it custom-built. If you don’t have any money, I highly recommend building your own retail store from scratch. I mean, why would you set up your own profile with some platform and then only sell products? You’ll be sitting under the business thinking about making your own retail store.
The way to start your storefront is generally by setting up your membership or account. This will need your email, name, and D.O.B. Once you account is made, you then need to edit your storefront by adding a picture and writing a short bio.
If you can write a great article, people will see it and want to buy your product. But how many commerce sites are there?
- Oracle Commerce
Think about it, what would you rather do, create your own storefront or actually building the actual website where you were meant to make your storefront? If you said ‘make a profile with an existing ecommerce platform’ you have been blinded by the internet. I could not stand being on someone’s website as the same as all the rest.
I would constantly be thinking about making my own online ecommerce website.
For example, have you heard of Facebook Ninjas marketing group on Facebook? That guy claims that he can show many people how to earn millions of dollars creating their own store. I’m sorry to say but that same group has stayed on the same 360,000 followers for years. Those people who joined were the ones who worked for years building their stores, and when that guy came along they all joined. It is very deceptive. Trust me, making a store front, you will never make any money, that space is ruined, unless you build your own website platform and grab your own traffic with quality content.
2. Social Media
Social media can be another way for ecommerce sites to make sales, and this can happen in two ways: they can further a sale by directing customers to the ecommerce platform. And secondly, they promote ecommerce business by creating a Facebook Fan page.
For anyone that is a complete beginner you will like this. But first, this only happens when you receive the right training. If you build a website, whoever helped you do that will also show you how to build your business Facebook Fan page. This is what you use to build up your following and get all the increase you need from that particular area of internet search and contentment.
By clicking the like button on your Facebook Fan page means you are building a second following by way of social media. This is something that is free and to defiantly make use of. Can you imagine just using all this free advertising?
I always tell people not to start an ecommerce store because you have to spend money on ads. Ecommerce stores were actually made for the main companies and never intended for other people to come and try and make money. Like think about it, you sell a product like how smart is that? Is selling a fork going to help the world? No. But what I will do is make many people fail to try, and then make a lot of young people run around the world with millions of dollars. This is when you start seeing crazy ads on and search engines saying ‘I’m rich’ ‘I’ll show you how’. No one wants to hear how rich you are
3. Parties involved
In terms of parties involved there are two general ways that this happens, and they are:
- Business to Consumer (B2C)
- Consumer to Business (C2C)
- Consumer to Consumer (C2C)
- Business to Business (B2B)
- Government to Business (G2B)
This is the amount of work that takes place with ecommerce and retail each day. You can get started in all this contagious environment, or you can focus on building your ecommerce business with a specially formed online platform that teaches people how to make money online.
4. Products and services being sold
Products being sold in ecommerce are sold online and not in the store. This means that now you can buy many valuable things from that comfort of your own home.
In retail there are many modules that you can look at when looking for an ecommerce on the internet. You can build your own website and with hard work to build your own retail store online.
Below are the three main ways that ecommerce works in selling services and products:
- Website Stores that sell products and services – Stores that sell all your favourite products are your normal online retailers. These stores showcase all there products and ebooks and allow customers to add them to their shopping carts.
- Digital products – This is where ecommerce store sell online classes and any digital equipment.
- Service based e-tailers – This is where you see websites that sell freelancing, educators, and consulting.
If you look at the list above you will see that there are many ways to get into the world of ecommerce. But again, let me tell you, all the established ecommerce websites that are already made to try and make people join them. I have noticed so many times that when an ecommerce store comes out they make a membership-based platform where you can make a profile and sell the exact same thing that they are selling.
The second thing to note is they will make out that it is very hard in getting started, but I want to make sure you know, starting a website for any ecommerce visions that you may have is not hard, and absolutely anyone can start. It is not the hardness of coding out the site. It is having the money and customers. Both these two elements come by creating a website and creating quality content.
You can build an ecommerce platform without any coding, all you need is WordPress. There are different ways you can do this, for example to get the site built out with content and start the traffic coming in, once that’s done to earn some money and change your coding to personalize your storefront. If you want to just have a basic WooHoo platform it is very easy to build inside the training below.
How to create an ecommerce platform
When starting your ecommerce store, it’s going to best to install the Woo theme and then have the plugging installed also on top. You can use any free theme, and then use the plugin on it’s own, but obviously it’s going to better with both. The actual difference between both items is that the plugin only allows certain things to be worked, whilst the theme changes the whole look and design of your website.
If WordPress software included everything that’s needed to build all the websites in the world, as you may imagine, the back-end platform would be chock-a-block full of tools and techniques. Therefore, the core of WordPress is kept willfully streamlined. Because of this, WordPress includes only what the vast majority need to go fourth with creating their websites.
I’m going to help you even more here by recommending a theme that is widely used among the internet. The theme is called Storefront and it’s child themes because they are built and optimized for WordPress. Now, Storefront is a free theme but if you wish to add functionality that’s fine, just go with Storefront extensions. In the lesson second above here, you’ll see the lesson from Wealthy Affiliate. You can follow that training and pick all this in there so you don’t have to waste any time moving forward. Last but not least, if you don’t like any of those themes, use a theme that WordPress has (which are many) and the Woo plugin will work seamlessly. If you can’t find a theme within the WordPress bunch then use a theme from Woo themes.

How to build your ecommerce website
WordPress offers many remarkable WordPress themes and one of those themes is called Woo-Commerce. As the name suggests, it is a theme for the ecommerce niche space. What did I say? It is very easy building your own ecommerce platform in absolutely any niche you want.
If you want a digital ecommerce site like mentioned earlier, this is how easy it will be for you to do this. In a digital space, all you need is to upload your recorded video classes or whatever digital products you are selling, and allow people to purchase them with their cart (give them a way).
The way i’m going to show you is a little bit different in comparison to the rest of the world, but in no case any less. These steps are extreme elements that you can put in place and make some powerful things happen online, feel me? Follow the list below for a short overview.
There are 3 simple steps that you need to build your ecommerce store and they are:
- Choose a niche (domain name)
- Build a website (Custom Website Builder)
- Write powerful and meaningful content (Site Content & WordPress CMS)
- Add Payment methods (PayPal or Stripe)
- Add Products
1. Choose a niche
After your site has been built, you then need to look at the different plugins to getting the right build that you are searching for. In this training, you will build everything because it has the WordPress CMS. If you have other ideas about the way you want it to be then just stick with the basic drop shipping model.
Moving forward, the idea is to just get your businesses foundation running strong and healthy. If you come into any issues later down the track because of the size you will be able to look at other hosting options for your website. There are some plugins that are too big to run on the SiteRubix hosting which is in this training. But that by no means is an issue in building the monster business and selling products. I just want you to see how powerful this stuff is.
When you’re choosing a brand name, what are you looking for in the words and attachments that you use? This is important because it’s what’s going to outlay what your domain name is.
Domain names are usually consistent with 2 words. Two words just sound perfect for a business name because it’s so easy to remember, and that’s what you want. Choose a name that you think is memorable.
When choosing your new domain name, I would start by brainstorming. This will consist of writing 10-20 premade domains names that you could go with.
If your ecommerce platform is going to based on toothbrushes, I would start with the following examples:
- Electric toothbrush
- Normal toothbrush
- Battery toothbrush
- Compact toothbrush
- Fullsize Toothbrush

2. Build your ecommerce website
Building your website needs to have a WordPress back end and this has the training all included. All you need to do is jump and make your account. It is free for the first 6 months, so with that, it gives you ample time to build your site and make money before you need to pay for the subscription.
This platform has a Custom website builder that allows you to quickly form and build a website in a few simple clicks of a button. Once the site is made, you then choose a theme and have it indexed in Google. Getting the Woocommerce plugins and themes won’t come until later on because you first need to get on Google.
If you were to start a store at Shopify, it would be you not on Google. Your brand wouldn’t be ranking for free traffic. Instead, you would be having to use social media and paid ads to sell your products. But they won’t tell you this because no one knows enough about the internet to write these posts.

Wouldn’t be the best setting up your store now for free, and getting yourself ready to not have to work in the future. Yes, this is a full-time business and has been for many years. You can start this now, but what’s more is I highly recommend doing this if you have products or anything from the list above.
It’s exactly the same as eBay and Amazon. I highly suggest that you don’t make accounts with eBay as a seller, because again, they are just a website. You can do the same as them and make a website here in this post, and it is very easy.
If you look at all the stores on eBay, I would show them all this training, and how they could build their own ecommerce website that receiving billions of visits and not just millions. Categories in eBay are saturated. Do you want fresh traffic or saturated traffic?
