I have never been a driver but have often caught taxis to and from places. I have often thought about the ins and outs of driving for money and how much those types of jobs make. Since writing many of these articles I have come to learn a whole lot more on that industry.
Do you think Driving could cover a full-time job? This post could help part-time people who are just searching for a way to make some extra side-income, in fact, Amazon states in their terms and Policies that they don’t tell people that Amazon Flex is in any way a job that can help them full-time. This is meaning that it is only something that should be looked at as being a part-time thing. The good side to that though is that you are not working alongside any people, which means you don’t have to worry about getting into fights with people once they have left the pub or anything. There’s more to it than that and that’s what I want to show you in this post moving forward.
Something you might like to think about on top of this is that you don’t have forever to make your fortune. This means that taking a job like this could mean certain failure. If you think about how long you have until retirement, it isn’t that long and I think there’s heaps better ways, I even have a post on how to earn money selling shoes on the internet.
Before Amazon grew to what it is today, when they delivered packages they would have to rely on businesses such as UPS, FedEx, and USPS for the transport of their packages to their destinations. The post office actually dedicated Sunday to working for Amazon Flex. These days the e-commerce giant is employing anyone capable to do the delivering for them.
Next to learning how much money you will make working for Amazon, I’m guessing most people are firstly wanting to know what areas these opportunities are. Back in 2015, Amazon had only launched in 2015 and soon expanded into many states across the US all of them being high-demand areas, right now they are estimated to be running in over 50 major cities and they include the following:
- Austin, Texas
- Los Angeles
- New York
- San Antonio
- San Francisco
As mentioned on another review I did on Amazon Flex, Amazon doesn’t provide a comprehensive list of all locations where they deliver, the only way to find out is by staying up to date with their Get Started Page which frequently posts their locations to that page.
Let’s work together on this one. You want money and this is definitely something I understand and the Flex opportunity can definitely work something new for you. Amazon Says on their website that drivers make $18 to $25 per hour, which is also an estimate that doesn’t include bonus tips or gross salary. Want to know the good news? The Flex App gig guarantees that wages sport from $15 to $19 and that’s with gross amount on location. If you get a tip of one of your jobs it’s yours entirely. Another perk with Amazon Flex is that the earnings can be predicted a lot easier than any other app-based work association because their deliveries are based on scheduled shifts that are up to four hours at a time.
The requirements on becoming an Amazon Flex Delivery Driver are basically like becoming a driver anywhere else except a little easier. You need to have a current driver’s license and pass a background check.
- Your Age – All drivers have to be over the age of 21
- Smart phones – You have to have your own mobile phone connected to either Android 6.0 or iOS 11, these two and higher are excepted.
- Auto Insurance – Drivers need to have their own external insurance on a valid auto insurance plan. Amazon also provides additional delivery insurance.
- Vehicle – The delivery car you own can range depending on what sorts of deliveries you get. Most cars will be acceptable. Amazon.com orders you must have an SUV, Mid Sized sedan, or pickup truck with a covered bed in it as necessary. You can not use Motorized cycles, mopeds, or Motorcycles.
Amazon calls their shifts “blocks” and it works differently to most other apps as in you don’t just login and start driving. The only time you can login and start driving with Amazon Flex is when you have an instant order. In most cases, you can plan out each order and work out how much you want to do for that timeframe. When signing up, you would have entered special details about the routines you can do, now with this you will have the Amazon Flex “Upcoming Orders” remade to suit your gender. You can easily switch back by rearranging the settings in the filter tab.
Blocks run between 2 to 4 hours schedules and there is no minimum for drivers to work or earn, you can work as much as you like or even as little. You are capped at 40 hours each week. One of the good perk specs is that you can see how money each is offering to be completed so in that sense, it’s just like a real job.
During the preparation for this review I was able to further estimate that some of the blocks being sent out actually take less time that what they propose. In this sense, you still get paid for the entire block. The same is also true on the alternate end, if you take to long to complete a block, maybe there’s high traffic you don’t earn extra money.
Upon everything so far, there’s some chance you could get fired if you cancel jobs more than three times. If you accepted a block and can’t do it, you have to cancel it at least 45 minutes before the time start. For instant offers you have to cancel within 5 minutes of accepting the offer. What the element is, is that late cancellations incur warnings and it is after three warnings that you risk losing your job entirely.
Amazon Prime includes services from lots of grocery chains that include whole foods or random convenience goods from local stores. It all depends on what’s happening in the area in which you work in at the time your deliver or orders you accept.
Here are some different types of orders you might get:
- Amazon Fresh and Prime Now – These orders are same-day-delivery orders and they contain a mixture of packages and grocers that are available at Prime Now Hubs and whole Food Stores.
- Amazon.com – These are standard packages that you pick up from nearby distribution centers.
- Instant Offers – These offers are based on your current location and so Amazon can inherit quick speed deliveries they route you to the nearest pick spots.
- Store Orders – This type of order is for when Amazon does not stock what you are looking for or they are just out of stock. In this case you will just have to swing past and third party store to include the products.
As with many delivery jobs in the world the Amazon Flex can definitely be associated with them the same. Packaging is heavy, getting the directions right or even receiving the directions can sometimes be sent out vague so that you can’t find the address. I have researched for this review and what I found is that a light load in conjunction with Amazon Flex pay rate can make things all the more worthwhile. Remember that Amazon Flex does more than most other Delivery apps.
If you are thinking about becoming a driver I recommend reading the subform from Reddit which is dedicated to Flex Workers. In this subform there are no holds barred, members speak on everything from the highs and lows to everyday life delivering with Amazon Flex which is a good thing. Interestingly enough, you read about the labyrinth apartment block where drivers get lost for hours looking for the right unit numbers all the way to customers who leave treats out where the delivery driver stops.
Signing up the Amazon Flex isn’t a problem at all. If you don’t sport and original Amazon Account you’ll need to start by creating one of them. Once that is done, go directly and download the app which then lets you start the job application.
Now for mobile download the way it works between Apple (The App Store) and Android is different in the sense that if you have an iPhone you can go directly and download the app from the App Store. But for Android users, the process is a little different and you can find out how to do that via totally separate instructions. If you have any problems moving forward with these downloads remember to switch through to settings to unblock third party responsibilities from downloading, you need to disable your phone’s security settings for this process. This will then let it install properly.
Once the downloads are complete, you need to start setting the app up how you want it. This includes setting up your location and scheduling availability. The element here is where you are located in the sense that if your area is in high demand it will allow you to start working right then, but if not you might have to head onto a waiting list.
Then once you have done that, start adding additional information including your social Security Number, Your Photo, and a copy of your Drivers License, and bank details to accept payment. It can take up to 10 business days for the process to be done and ready.
Extra Added Tips for overcoming Your First Time on
I understand that there could be people out there who are reading this and don’t know how it all goes for the first time around, so because of that I want to show you some tips in getting ready to start, and they are:
This is first on the tips list due to it being one of the most important from day one. There are times in that which gig workers go past remembering that their gross pay isn’t going to match up to that $25 per hour and could actually be much less. This makes it important enough to track all your expenses so you make more money.
You have time during the overview process to compile any training materials Amazon gives you to get that done. During this time, also use it to learn how the app works, don’t waste any time forgetting about things whilst the process clears. There’s always things you can do including reading my Wealthy Affiliate Review which shows you how I coach you into your first ever sale online.
It is not going to hurt learning how to pack boxes and deliver things while you wait. If you have a large enough family they may have errands in which you can practice taking things as a driver, even practicing packing the boot. YouTube Tutorials will also come in handy to watch for added learning.
It would be a good idea to learn your area while you’re driving around or even better as your driving around remember to find out where all the pickup destinations are while you’re waiting to be processed and get your first job.
